Fondazione CHIPS-IT Featured in the MARCH Issue of INSIDE Journal

Fondazione CHIPS-IT has been spotlighted in the March edition of the INSIDE industry association’s journal, in an article entitled “Strengthening Europe’s Chips Design: The Strategic Role of Italy’s CHIPS-IT Foundation.” The piece highlights the strategic importance of integrated circuit design for Europe’s technological autonomy and showcases the central role our Foundation is playing in strengthening both the Italian and European semiconductor ecosystems.

The authors detail how CHIPS-IT—established in December 2023 as Italy’s national hub for chip design and led by President Prof. Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli and CEO Dr. Carlo Reita—operates on a “hub-and-spoke” model to bolster existing research centers and foster the creation of fabless startups. They outline our five core research areas—spanning digital design, open hardware, advanced packaging, and more—as well as the many national and European projects in which Fondazione CHIPS-IT is involved, all aimed at positioning Italy as a leading force in integrated circuit design.

Finally, the article emphasizes how CHIPS-IT contributes to the European Commission’s goal of producing 20 % of the world’s semiconductors by 2030, supported by a budget exceeding €26 million for 2025 and a network of over 30 institutional and industrial members.
